THE PEARS WE GROW

Bartlett
Bartlett pears are one of the most popular and recognizable pear varieties, known for their classic pear shape and smooth, thin skin that ripens from green to a warm golden yellow. When fully ripe, they’re incredibly juicy with a soft, buttery texture and a sweet, floral aroma. Bartletts are excellent for fresh eating, but they also hold up well when canned or poached, making them a versatile choice in the kitchen. Their flavor is rich and honeyed, with just a hint of tartness when underripe. These pears are typically harvested in late summer and continue to ripen off the tree.

Seckel
Seckel pears are one of the smallest pear varieties, often called “sugar pears” for their exceptionally sweet, rich flavor. They have a firm, crisp texture and are typically green with a deep red blush. Their petite size makes them perfect for snacking, lunchboxes, or elegant cheese boards. Despite their small stature, Seckels pack a punch of flavor—dense, spicy-sweet, and aromatic. They hold their shape well when cooked, making them ideal for poaching, roasting, or preserving whole. Harvested in late summer to early fall, Seckel pears are a charming and flavorful treat in any season.

Asian
Asian pears are round and crisp, often resembling apples in both shape and texture. Their skin ranges from golden yellow to light brown, sometimes speckled. Unlike other pears, they’re firm even when ripe, with a refreshing, juicy crunch and a mildly sweet, floral flavor. Perfect for fresh eating, they also add a crisp texture to salads and cheese plates. Asian pears store well and are typically harvested in late summer to early fall.

D'Anjou
D’Anjou pears are smooth-skinned and egg-shaped, with a short neck and firm, dense flesh. They come in green or red varieties and remain green even when ripe. Juicy and subtly sweet with hints of citrus, D’Anjous are excellent for snacking, baking, or roasting. They ripen gradually at room temperature and are typically available from fall through spring.

Bosc
Bosc pears are easily recognized by their long, slender necks and russeted, cinnamon-brown skin. Their flesh is dense, crisp, and mildly sweet with a hint of spice. Bosc pears hold their shape well when cooked, making them ideal for baking, poaching, or roasting. They’re also delicious eaten fresh, especially when slightly firm.
